Old Trafford Trip

On Saturday 17th July 2010, 47 students descended upon one of the most famous sporting venues in the world, Old Trafford, for a tour of the stadium and museum. The trip got off to an interesting start when pupils turned up wearing a variety of football shirts including Arsenal, Liverpool and Leeds! But after a strange detour through Warrington (twice!) we arrived in Manchester, and no matter which team you supported, nobody could fail to be impressed by the sheer size of the Theatre of Dreams.

We kicked off the tour (no pun intended) with a walk around the three story museum where we learned about the vast history of the club, from recent players such as Wayne Rooney and David Beckham, to legends like Eric Cantona and George Best, as well as the tragedy of the Munich Air Disaster. From the museum, we split into two groups and began our guided tour of stadium. We saw everything from the home changing room and player’s lounge to the executive boxes in the North Stand. Pupils had the opportunity to sit in the dugout and walk down the tunnel to the roar of 75,000 fans.

Once the tour was finished, it was time for a bit of retail therapy. The megastore is one of the biggest club shops on the planet, and pupils bought a variety of gifts from scarfs to piggy banks. With our wallets a little lighter, it was time to begin our journey back to Weobley. Everyone agreed they had a brilliant time and I think we returned back with a few more Man Utd fans than we left with!
