ICT Support

Head of Department:
Mr Lewis
Staff:
Mr Andrews
Welcome to ICT Support!

Our department plays a vital part in ensuring all of the school's ICT equipment is working at it's very best to support teaching and learning. We also play a large part in supporting both staff and students both in issue resolving and training.
The school's ICT infrastructure consists of around 260 workstations which are all networked. We also have a full site-wide wireless network and 70 wireless laptops allowing us to take ICT to lessons where either no ICT space is available, or when it’s only needed for a short while.

Hardware

To ensure our staff and students get the best experience from using ICT to enhance their learning and teaching, we only invest in top of the range hardware. All of our machines at least meet all of the minimum requirements for all the software we run. We have also ensured that our machines are high enough specification to run the new Operating System by Microsoft (Windows 7) which we will plan to deploy soon.

Software

We have a full complement of software required to support teaching and learning including:
  • Microsoft Office Enterprise – 2003 and the newer 2007
  • Adobe Flash, Dreamweaver, Freehand & Fireworks
  • Various Google tools including Google Earth and Google Sketchup
  • And a full range of subject specific software

Servers

A modern ICT infrastructure is nothing unless it’s backed with a powerful server backend. We’ve taken that into consideration from the first step. We have 14 servers of various specifications running a mix of Windows Server 2008 and various Linux distributions allowing us the ultimate flexibility in how we both manage and deploy hardware and software. We also have a unique network monitoring system which alerts us to any network incidents as soon as they happen (common in enterprise inducstries… not in schools!).
We’ve also built our servers up to be future proof aswell. With more and more resources becoming ICT based, more and more storage space is required. We have a combined storage of around 3TB (Terabytes). This is equivilent to:
  • 15,728,640 E-mails and documents
  • 898,779 MP3s
  • 3,932 Videos
