Key Stage 3

At KS3 pupils cover a variety of topics. In year 7 pupils develop their history shills; they study the Battle of Hastings, medieval castles, how monarchs kept control and the Black Death. In year 8 pupils study 16th Century religious change, The English civil war and slavery. In year 9 Pupils study the industrial revolution, including jack the ripper, the causes of WWI and key events in WWII and civil rights.

 
History is an option subject so pupils can choose to study History at KS4. In history we follow the OCR B Modern World specification. This covers the time period 1919-1945.
 

Key Stage 4

  • British depth study.  (The liberal reforms, the home front WW1 and women)
  • Events after WW1, the peace treaties and the League of Nations.
  • Depth study Germany 1919-1945. Problems Germany faced and Nazi Germany.
  • Causes of WW2.
There is only one tier in history and so all students will take the same exam papers.
 
There are two exam papers:
Paper 1 tests the knowledge and understanding pre 1945, which includes the depth study GERMANY. Paper 1 is 2 hours long and counts for 45% of pupils’ total marks.
 
Paper 2 is source based and tests the knowledge of British history, such as the Liberal Reforms, the home front (WW1) and women. Paper 2 is 1h 30mins long and counts for 30% of pupils’ total mark.
 
Coursework:
Pupils must complete 1 piece of coursework which is a controlled assessment; this counts for 25% of pupils’ total marks. Coursework is written in an essay format.
